Makita XAG03Z Cordless Angle Grinder Review

Angle grinders, also referred to as disc grinders or side grinders, are handheld power tools that are used for polishing and abrasive cutting. This power tool can be powered by a petrol engine, electric motor or compressed air. If you are currently on the market for a grinder, we recommend taking the cordless route because cords have a tendency to get in the way.

While doing a large amount of research we came across the Makita XAG03Z Cordless Angle Grinder – yes, for a tool name, that is definitely a mouthful to spit out. The more features and options a power tool has, the more descriptive the name is going to be. When it comes to selecting a good grinder, it is best that you choose one that has the proper options and features so that you do not waste your
money on a tool that is only going to sit in the closet and collect dust.

Now, it’s time to learn all about the Makita angle grinder so that you can determine whether or not it’s a suitable option for you.

Inside the Box

We’re going to start out with what’s inside the box. The grinder comes in a nice little metal briefcase type of box – it’s the perfect place to store a tool like this. This is the same hard box Makita sold their power tools in 20 years ago and we’re glad they continued this tradition. Inside the box, you’ll find the grinder, charger and batteries.

Well Balanced

Picking up the grinder, it felt well balanced and comfortable. It has a switch on it and we’re happy to see that it is lockable.

Batteries

Installing the batteries is easy – they click in and out with ease. While putting the batteries in, we noticed an interesting safety feature that will prevent the grinder from automatically turning on – just make sure you have the switch lock in the “on” position when inserting new batteries.

Charger indicator Lighting System

There’s a charger indicator lighting system that is a tad bit on the confusing side. When there’s a lot of lights and combinations on
anything, we have a tendency to get confused, so that may be just us. There was an initial learning curve, but once we got past that, we were able to quickly glance at it and know right away where the battery was at during the charging process. Mind you, the batteries themselves don’t have charge indicators on them – the actual battery charge indicator is located on the tool. To find the one that has the most charge, you will need to put both batteries in. Yes, this is a minor inconvenience, but we feel it is worth taking note of.

Automatic Speed Change

The automatic speed change technology is a big hit in our book. With this technology, you can easily adjust the speed and torque while operating it for optimum performance.

BL Brushless Motor

The BL Brushless Motor is also something else that is worth noting – it eliminate carbon brushes. This motor runs cooler and more efficiently, making for a longer life.

Conclusion

At only 14-1/4” long, this grinder has a nice compact and ergonomic design. When you’re using it for your projects, you shouldn’t have a problem handling it as it’s really comfortable. All in all, we believe this is a great angle grinder that might be suitable for you.
