Starting out, some would claim that this planer is an entry-level benchtop planer. However, we don’t think there’s any such thing as an entry-level planer. Some of them just have more bells and whistles on them and that’s really the only difference. As far as entry-level goes, this one can do the same thing as any other benchtop planer can do.

It’s 12 and a half inch – this means that it can cut up to a 12 and a half inch wide board and up to a 6 inch thick board.
It weighs around 80 pounds and it has a cast iron base, so you can count on this thing being quite heavy, which is a good thing for a planer.

This planer has the basic feed tables that you would find on any other planer like this. As long as you adjust them properly, they should work just fine.
Conclusion
Wen 6550, in our opinion, just so happens to be one of the best planers currently on the market. This planer comes with a nice smooth granite table so that it is capable of offering the required support to wood that is being worked within the machine. You can use it to transform uneven and rough wood into a flawlessly smooth surface. It’s pretty hefty and strong with the cast iron base – this base makes it so that it doesn’t wobble while you’re using it. This planer is well worth the money and works just as good as the more expensive models you’ll find.
